POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT – LEGAL ASSISTANT
The Office of Public Defender, Shelby County, Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Legal Assistant. This is a Full-Time position. This is an immediate opening. Employees in this role will be part of a public defender team and growing office providing client-centered, zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical, and skilled representation of indigent persons charged with state criminal offenses in Shelby County, Alabama.
Skills required for this position includes punctuality, excellent communication skills; ability to communicate and work well with others; ability to address and assist all attorneys and other employees in a timely and professional manner; a commitment to obtaining justice for indigent persons.
Minimum requirements include:
· Ability to develop and maintain effective working professional relationships with attorneys, supervisors, co-workers, and county and state officials,
· Ability to answer and coordinate phone, e-mail messages and requests to the proper legal team or individual,
· Available to work a 5-day work week of 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
· Ability to attend assist attorneys in the Shelby County District Court Traffic and Misdemeanor Dockets.
· Must maintain a professional appearance and attire when appearing in court.
Employees of the Office of the Public Defender for Shelby County, Alabama are full-time state employees with state benefits unless otherwise noted and may not engage in other full-time employment or litigation assistance for hire without the express permission of the Public Defender.
